Thanks Dan and guys for a proper perspective on STS and editing magazines in general. And the editing is harder and better than you think. You should see some of the stuff that comes in there. I'll give you an example >

This is a paragraph from my debated Dec./Jan column as it appeared in STS; compare it to what was sent in and you see my point:

"Also try some different baits and lures. Instead of just trying eggs and/or sandshrimp, try some pink colored crawfish tails or prawn tails. And Kwikfish/Flatfish aren’t just for ‘nooks! Try size K-11, or a little smaller sizes in clear water. I prefer flame red with black dot eyes for colored water use and the standby ‘blue pirate’ color for clearish water. You can backtroll these for steelhead with the use of the smallest 10 ft. version Jet Planer and 5 ft. leader. You can drift fish them with lead and a 4 ft. leader, allowing them to drift then swing across holding water; especially good in moderate depth tailouts for holding or fresh arrived fish. And you can anchor over seams (at the edge of the faster water where fish often hold), or stand over seams from a land outcropping or waded position, and backbounce and work these small Kwikies around in them. Fish on!"

This was that paragraph before it got edited:

"Also try sum different crap for a chainge, ya idiots. Iinstead oftrying overated eggs or sandshrimp get out anything pink and thorw it in the water guys. And flat fish aren't just for nookie! A size U20 will clear the water. Colors of these flatfeesh just don't mater. Try using them with a Delta Diver with the prongs spewing out in al directions, along with abot a 50 foot leater. You can drift fish thetm if you're an idiot. Its beter to just hover them on the seems. Fish onward cowboys!"

So, you can see what a challenge it is to edit all the articles and columns and ads that come in! I just wish that hadn't left out my joke disclaimer; by accident I'm sure. smile
