Another option, that almost always works, is to use the typical foam "dink" float but add a rubber band to the equation. All you need to do is run the line through the hole at the top and through the hole at the bottom, do not take the usual wrap around the float .Then before tying on your lure or swivel, take a small rubber band and wrap it around the float two or three times, trapping the line between the float and the rubber band. The float will be very easy to adjust for depth, more so than when rigged in the usual manner.

If you hang up, you may break off the jig/bait/lure, but the float will still be held to the mainline by the rubber band.

Also if you use the Thill Turbomaster #3 it has two rubber sleeves that hold the float to the line. Usually the float will stay on your line even if you break of your lure. The float is perfect for using a 1/8 ounce jig with no other weight needed.

The Thill floats are fairly expensive, but I often can fish several days without losing one.
