good tip cowlitz,

I hate to be a party pooper but wont that spook the hell out of the fish ripping the line through the water like that for a 20 cent bobber? Especially shallow water like inside the island at blue creek. I prefer to walk down stream and let the current slide it up my line, if its not a crowded bank.

An add on: I sometimes prefer to weight my bobber too (it makes for better line mending and makes the float even less detectable on a take down) I usually use a 1/8 ounce worm sinker, I use a 1/4 jighead with a straightened out 3/0 hook as a guide wire and heat up the 1/8 ounce worm sinker after sliding it on the guide wire big end first. once heated (not melted) I slide the tip of the guide wire into the eye of the cheater and the worm sinker melts into the cheater. presto! weighted bobber.
