When I go springer fishing and troll a herring during flood or slack tide and decide to anchor and plunk a kwikfish during the ebb, you mean I should use a different rod for that? If so, what will the fiberglass rod do that makes any meaningful difference?

I don't know how you could use the same rod. I mean if I don't have a rod absolutely dedicated to the technique, I'll just not do that technique, rather than suffer the embarassment of using a rod not suited to the task. I mean what would people say? I heard a hogline gossip session one day about a guy who was fishing a 6 oz dropper when every one else was using 4 oz, let me just say they were saying some pretty rude things about his fish catching skills, "and did you see his reels, none of them had more than 2 ball bearings!"
