Well, in a feeble attempt to put a positive spin on your situation, at least the kids will have a relative close to their own age to play with. My youngest brother and my sister's oldest son are 3 months apart. Now both are in their mid-40's and best friends. They're in business together and their kids are good buddies also.
Might not sound too cool at this point but it's the best I could come up with.
