I went to the Tacoma News Tribune link and read the article. That article "Inferred" that there were cuts to "Senior Management", That is Blatant Political Bull Crap!!!!! I was able to download the 2006 personnel listing of the entire department (around 1550 FTE) that shows names, FTE status, pay, and most importantly JOB TITLE, ie, functional description of what each employee does. Yes the last round of the cuts ONLY HIT the Hatchery & LEO functions quite deeply. BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTT, did little or no cutting to OVERHEAD FUNCTIONS, ie, Information Technology/PC/IT Support (about 90 FTE), Budget/Financial/Program/Communications Analysts (100 plus FTE), truck drivers, welders, carpenters, etc. The cuts hit the meat or direct mission support activities and left almost NO CUTS to the overheads. Another serious analysis needs to be performed to guide future cuts and that is what can be contracted out (IT FUNCTIONS ESPECIALLY!!!!). Keep direct mission support functions like Hatcheries.
I think I would characterize the last round of cuts as "FTE Management For Goobermint Dummies." Just maybe they could do it right this time and NOT piss off their "Customers", that us license buyers just in case one of the Goobers is reading this.
