Too soft is sometimes more of a problem than a rod that is somewhat stiff and fast. All of the IMX's I've fished were really soft in the tip which is not always a good thing.

Once you are really able to recognize the difference between a fish and the bottom having a faster rod can make a big difference in hook ups.

The faster the rod, the faster the transfer of what is happening on the end of your line to your fingertips and, the quicker your hookset reaction will reach the fish.

The new XMG's are a great balance of sensitivity and speed, both of which makes a great true drift rod.
