I think the lower grade GL2s are the way to go for the heavy action rods. They're a little heavier and can take more punishment, without sacrificing much in the way of sensitivity. Much cheaper as well. I have the GL2 1021c (10-20lb test) and use it for most salmon fishing. Its your standard 8.5 footer so would not provide you much advantage fishing floats.

If you want to go the Canadian way, the GL2 1363c ?? is a 10-20lb rod thats 11'4". I borrowed a friends and had a blast with it fishing floats for fall kings on the Vedder River this past fall. Now I have to scounge up enough money to buy one.

For steelhead though, I like the GL3s in the medium actions and Lamiglass in light actions.
