I respect them in that they are a native species of fish, getting pushed to the brink like most others in the northwest.

Instead of Rodney Dangerfield, I would personally probably compare them more to that big ugly guy on goonies. Oddly proportioned, toothy, misshapen, strangely colored, strong as an ox, but bad eatin.
