I'd sure like to see more casual users of WDFW access sites buy parking permits.
Last summer during the heat wave, I counted 65 cars at the Lewis Street access one afternoon here in Monroe, lots of folks cooling off in the river.
Out of 65 cars there were 0 parking permits hanging from rear view mirrors.
WDFW enforcement could issue a lot of tickets in a situation like this, but the paperwork would be overwhelming.
I'd like to see them make an appearance every now and then and post a courtesy warning on the offender's windshields, advising them about the parking permits and how it helps the Department's revenue, to maintain these sites ( if that is where the money actually goes?)
I talked to a Snohomish County officer on the scene last year responding to calls about swimmers jumping off the Lewis Street Bridge and he told me they did not write citations for parking since the WDFW officers who might have patrolled do all the info on their computer for writing up later at the office, so they the Sno County guys don't know if someone might have already be cited that day.
It is not uncommon to see people exercising their dogs, eating their lunch, or taking a nap at these sites
I certainly have no objection to that, but I'd like to see all users participate pay their fair share of what is basically a user fee for sportsmen who buy licenses.
