1.) Jacque Chirac had a close personal friendship with Saddam spanning several years.

2.) The Billion(s) of unsecured dollars that France had loaned Saddam's government, that they stood to lose.

3.) The fact that France had profited from selling potentially damning military hardware to Saddam and his regime.

4.) The fact that France generally resents America's successful economy and super- power status.--RB

In the final analysis, the only one you can 'always' count on is yourself.

Going to war is kind of like moving----no one looks foward to it, but when it happens and you could use a hand---you find out pretty quick who your real friends are.
