No, it can be. Instead of taking the guy directly across from you in standard man run blocking, zone run blocking is identifying the where the pressure is coming from and run blocking your man within your zone. He could be straight ahead or to either side. But the way you block is the same. Get low and blow him back versus standing up and bump blocking (typical pass pro). It helps when a struggling 0-line can't beat the D straight up. It allows for double team help as needed. At the start of the season, the Hawks were straight up man blocking and were getting whipped at the line. Going to the zone has helped bring in support to cancel out the D's best players. Bevell isn't the greatest, but he has made the adjustments as needed to help his young and struggling o-line. The results are now speaking for the themselves. More rush yards and less sacks. This isn't magic.
