A heads up for folks. The gravel bar at the East end of Higgins Island is substantially larger than last year. One used to be able to cross it and come in or out of the North end of the channel most of the tide. Depending on the tide this means you have to make sure you are at mid tide or so to cross the bar. I watched a boat zipping down the river take the North side of the island at incoming tide and it did not end well. Not sure about how their boat did but it certainly made a lot of noise before coming to an abrupt stop. Need to be careful when on the river as it always changes and as we have not had a large flood event for several years logs and deadheads are accumulating.
